Pistolera Mexican Cantina was established back in 2014 with the help of Chef Leonardo "Tabasco" Guerrero. His Mexican heritage and growing up in a family of chefs, his skills in the kitchen is what has made Pistolera what it represents today. With his careful selection of ingredients and authentic recipes, all the intent of bringing Mexican cuisine to Shanghai has deemed successful. With 2 locations buzzing on a daily basis, there is no other place with a vibe like this. Our Hengshan Lu location has a live Latina band playing weekly, and both venues have a large terrace for the warm weather. Pistolera is perfect for an intimate evening, or a spectacular party that will always be remembered.

The food is good, highly recommend the short rib. Service is just okay, the waiter doesn’t know the food very well.
I love Pistolera and go frequently whether it's Restaurant Week or not. It's honestly an awesome restaurant. I went with someone and so we were able to order both options for each phase of the meal. This time though, I will say that there is too much food - the "deconstructed taco salad" was in fact an entire taco salad... and that was just the appetizer! Also, it was strange that one of the entrees and both dessert options weren't actually Mexican food. The ribs were delicious and the pita bread was great for spreading the excess sauce on, but that's American and Mediterranean, not Mexican, haha. The desserts were beautiful, but not particularly flavorful, or Mexican.That being said, all of the food except the dessert was quite memorable and I am of course going to be back soon.
