Restaurant Paulaner Bräuhaus @ Expo

555 Shibo Avenue, near Xue ye lu, Pudong, 浦东新区世博大道555号,近雪野路, 200 125 Shanghai Show telephone number →

Located in a renovated former distillery in Pudong, Paulaner @ Expo opened in 2010, becoming the largest outlet among the Paulaner Bräuhaus Shanghai brand

The restaurant is decorated in typical Bavarian décor, creating a comfortable and boisterous atmosphere with traditional furniture and European antiques. And while Paulaner @ Expo can seat up to 500 customers indoors, guests will still be able to get a feel for the region’s well-known sense of “Gemütlichkeit” (lit: “coziness”) through the restaurant’s relaxed and rustic charm. The property also has a Beer Garden for guests to enjoy fresh brews of our celebrated Paulaner Beer.

Just like at our Fen Yang Road location, Paulaner Bräuhaus Shanghai @ Expo is equipped with a state of the art microbrewery and offers three varieties of beer: Lager, Dark and Wheat. Brewed according to the famous 1516 German Law of Purity with our own high-tech equipment, the characteristics of our beer are initially soft, bitter, of sufficient body, and free from off flavors. Because our beer is unfiltered - which is the only difference between our Bavarian partner company's beers and ours - it becomes cloudy when dispensed, distinguished by its natural coloring and appearance. Furthermore, having our own microbrewery enables us to guarantee freshness to our beer that is otherwise difficult to find.

Paulaner @ Expo’s German Executive Chef guides his guests on a culinary excursion through Bavaria and Germany. Typical savory specialties like Pork Knuckle with Sauerkraut, a great variety of Sausages, and Wiener Schnitzel are all on offer. Breads, Brezels and sweet desserts like Apple Strudel and other pastries are freshly prepared in the onsite bakery. The restaurant also offers popular international dishes to appeal to its multinational guests.

Not impressed. Especially not at these prices!
The pork knuckle tasted stale, it was chewy not crunchy skin. The apple pie was terrible. Not fresh at all. One of the worst apple pies I have eaten. The beer is not bad, but you can get just as good beer at other places for much cheaper.
The atmosphere is standard for such places.

The restaurant was booked for a large private party, but we had a reservation for 10. To accomodate us, the moved us to the dining room of Ambrosia on the 4th floor. We were worried that we would be forgotten, but received outstanding personal service. The combination of solid German cuisine, the views from the upper floors of the building and perfect service made the experience a highlight of the eveving and convinced us to make the cross-town trek to Paulaner Expo. Well done.
