BOR eatery by Kasper Pederson Arrives on Anfu Lu

Danish chef Kasper Pedersen and his team are switching things up with a swank Anfu Lu location at new eatery, BOR. From the Danish ‘Jeg bor her’ meaning ‘I live here’, BOR eatery is a relaxed and intimate chef-curated experience designed by the award-winning chef for modern diners.

“Dining is moving beyond geographical labels to become more personal. At BOR, I’m simply cooking what I love to eat, distilled from my culinary experiences and without boundaries,” says Kasper Pedersen. “There are influences from foraging, farm-to-table and nose-to-tail cooking, from working in fine-dining restaurants in Denmark, also from popular streetfood and my time in Shanghai – but the essence of BOR is cooking with love and fresh local ingredients.”

Exemplifying the personal dining experience, BOR eatery completely removes the traditional barriers between kitchen and dining room. Kasper and his team are right in the middle of the restaurant, cooking, plating and serving guests.

High ceilings, natural light and large windows framing the buzz of Anfu and Wukang roads define the relaxed dining space. Natural woods, bespoke ceramics crafted in Jingdezhen and potted fig trees add to the fresh, contemporary vibe.

Dishes created and prepared by Kasper on the seasonally evolving menu include Beef tartare with tomato and fresh herbs on fried sourdough, Fried scallops with grapefruit, hazelnut and salted caramel, and mains such as Smoked pork ribs with sour apple, mustard and pickles cooked in BOR’s Josper grill.

The smoky charred flavours of the prized Josper infuse top-quality cuts of dry-aged beef, whole fish, king prawns, and even BOR’s house-smoked salmon and house-made hams. The full-flavoured meats are balanced with dishes that reflect Kasper’s cutting-edge cooking techniques and passion for quality. An appetizer of Radish with mussel dip elevates a classic aioli by replacing eggs with fresh mussels and homemade dill oil for added umami richness. Mini Danish hotdogs are already a crowd favourite on the deliciously fun menu.

Sides are never an afterthought, including Roasted cauliflower with butter foam, chestnut and lime, Beets beets beets, and Gnocchi with onion cream and garlic salsa verde. Vegetarians and health conscious diners are well catered for with Kasper’s inspiring vegetable creations.

Exploding honeycomb, and Chocolate mousse with chocolate sorbet and dark chocolate are among the old favourites featured on the dessert menu. Accompanying the menu is an extensive, directly-imported wine list, cocktails from the sit-up bar, a premium gin selection, cult-favourite Mikkeller Danish craft beer on draught, and refreshing juices and coolers.

Bit disappointed as I was expecting food with a bit more personality. This is good good, no problem there, but very wagas-y. I was hoping the chef would have kept Scandinavian elements to the menu like at Pelikan

Very good food with interesting flavor combinations in a nice atmosphere. I like the open kitchen where you can watch the chefs at work. Service is friendly and waiters speak English.
I liked the fried halibut appetizer and the mini hotdogs, the roasted chicken was juicy and came with yummy sauces and the salted raspberry sorbet with pine nut oil was great finish to the meal.

Overcrowded, noisy, and almost unreachable with a baby stroller due to extremely narrow and uneven stairs.
Went there on the Restaurant Week looking for some of that great food I used to find in Pelikan and I was very disappointed. The dishes were boring, the options scarce and we left hungry and poorer.
All the options for the Restaurant Week deal are actually starters or snack bites from their menu, so not a great offer.
